On August 28, amid a gentle drizzle, Beihang University's Xueyuan Road and Shahe campuses welcomed the undergraduate class of 2026. This year, 4,168 new students from across the country arrived on campus, comprising 3,195 male and 973 female students. The youngest among them is just 15 years old, while the oldest is 25.
To help newcomers familiarize themselves with the campus and integrate into university life more smoothly, the university has developed a one-stop intelligent onboarding platform called the "AI Navigator," specifically designed to offer real-time campus information services for the class of 2026. At the welcome site on the Xueyuan Road campus, each college and school had set up uniquely themed booths reflecting their distinct characteristics. New students eagerly left their first signatures of university life on the signature wall and posed for photos with their families, capturing the precious moments of their registration day.
During the morning, university leaders, including Party Secretary Zhao Changlu and President Wang Yunpeng, visited the welcome areas and freshman dormitories. They warmly greeted the students and their parents and encouraged the newcomers to make the most of the university's outstanding scientific and educational resources, urging them to adapt to campus life with clear goals and careful planning. The leaders also presented birthday gift vouchers to students celebrating their birthdays that day, offered care packages to those who applied through the "green channel," and expressed their gratitude to the staff and volunteers involved in the orientation activities.
This year's incoming class includes several groups of students who arrived together. Six classmates from the same class at Gansu Jingning No. 1 Middle School—Li Yifei, Lei Minghan, Liu Yifan, Zou Shiyu, Liang Yuhang, and Guo Jiawang—all fulfilled their dreams of attending Beihang. Among them, one was admitted to the AI Excellence Program at the Xueyuan Road campus, three joined the Engineering Experimental Class (Aerospace Category) at the Shahe campus, and two entered the Science Experimental Class at the Shahe campus.
In addition, twin brothers Chen Kaihang and Chen Kaixiang from Linhe No. 1 Middle School in Bayannur, Inner Mongolia, were both accepted by Beihang. The elder brother, Chen Kaihang, scored 675 and was admitted to the Quantum Technology Pioneering Program, while the younger brother, Chen Kaixiang, scored 669 and was accepted into the Engineering Experimental Class (Information Science and Technology). Both brothers registered at the Xueyuan Road campus. Having studied in the same school and class together from kindergarten through high school, the twins now continue their journey side by side at the same university.
To better serve the new students, the university's comprehensive informatization platform, "Smart Beihang," is fully prepared. The platform has launched an "One-Stop Onboarding" feature, organizing a total of 13 tasks in a serial sequence from "pre-registration" to "during registration." After completing the mandatory tasks of the previous phase, the next phase's tasks are unlocked according to the rules. This transforms the registration process into a clear, manageable checklist, allowing students to complete and confirm each item one by one, making their preparation clearer and less stressful.
Furthermore, the "AI Navigator," a one-stop intelligent onboarding platform jointly developed by multiple university departments, provides instant campus information services exclusively for the class of 2026. It helps students unlock their new campus life with a single click and integrates several AI applications, including features such as "Knowledge Q&A," "Cloud Group Photo," and "Campus Tour," enabling freshmen to quickly explore and understand the campus. Seven adorable "digital navigator" avatars support these services, and the university has also launched a "Navigator Growth" parent orientation class to build a bridge for home-school communication and strengthen collaborative education between families and the university.
