Official data released on July 15th shows the performance of China's energy production sector for the month of June.
Production of raw coal from large-scale industrial enterprises declined year-on-year, while crude oil output remained steady. Natural gas production shifted from decline to growth, and electricity generation maintained a stable pace of increase.
Production Figures for Coal, Crude Oil, and Natural Gas
Raw coal production fell compared to the same period last year. In June, large-scale industrial enterprises produced 380 million tonnes of raw coal, a decrease of 9.7% year-on-year, with an average daily output of 12.7 million tonnes. For the period from January to June, total raw coal output reached 2.37 billion tonnes, down 1.7% year-on-year.
Crude oil production remained stable. Output for June was 18.12 million tonnes, a slight decrease of 0.5% year-on-year, averaging 604,000 tonnes per day. Cumulative output for the first half of the year was 109.43 million tonnes, representing a 0.9% increase compared to the same period last year.
The decline in crude oil processing expanded. In June, processing volume was 51.24 million tonnes, down 17.7% year-on-year. This rate of decline was 8.6 percentage points wider than in May, with a daily average of 1.708 million tonnes. The total processed from January to June was 343.87 million tonnes, a decrease of 4.9% year-on-year.
Natural gas production transitioned from decline to growth. June output reached 21.4 billion cubic meters, up 1.1% year-on-year, compared to a 2.2% decline in May. Daily average production was 710 million cubic meters. Cumulative output for the first six months was 133 billion cubic meters, an increase of 1.6%.
Electricity Generation Statistics
Power generation from large-scale industrial enterprises grew steadily. In June, electricity output was 827.6 billion kilowatt-hours, a 2.0% increase year-on-year, with a daily average of 27.59 billion kilowatt-hours. For the January-June period, total generation reached 4.7501 trillion kilowatt-hours, up 3.5% year-on-year.
Breaking down by energy source, the growth rates for thermal power and hydropower from large-scale enterprises slowed in June. The growth rate for nuclear power and solar power accelerated, while wind power shifted from growth to decline.
Specifically, thermal power generation increased by 0.5% year-on-year, with growth slowing by 1.6 percentage points compared to May. Hydropower generation grew by 4.8%, with its growth rate slowing by 8.2 percentage points.
Nuclear power generation increased by 8.5%, accelerating by 3.5 percentage points. Wind power generation fell by 5.6%, contrasting with a 0.5% increase in May. Solar power generation grew by 14.2%, with its growth rate accelerating by 2.1 percentage points.
