STANCHART cancels 0.71 million shares after GBP 8.09 million buyback, issued capital trimmed to 2.18 billion

Standard Chartered PLC (STANCHART, HKEX: 02888) has marginally reduced its share capital following the cancellation of 708,632 ordinary shares repurchased on 17 and 18 September 2026 and formally cancelled on 22 September. The move lowered the bank’s issued share base from 2.18 billion to 2.18 billion shares, a 0.03% decrease.

The cancelled stock comprised: • 356,905 shares bought on 17 September at a volume-weighted average price of GBP 23.1979. • 351,727 shares bought on 18 September at a volume-weighted average price of GBP 23.0683.

Further activity on 21–22 September added 713,988 repurchased shares that have yet to be cancelled. This includes 353,892 shares acquired on 22 September across the London Stock Exchange, CBOE BXE and CBOE CXE at prices ranging from GBP 22.54 to GBP 23.18, costing GBP 8.09 million in aggregate. Another 360,096 shares were bought on 21 September at GBP 23.2771 each. These shares remain in issue until formal cancellation.

Since shareholders approved a buyback mandate on 7 May 2026 permitting the purchase of up to 221.63 million shares, STANCHART has repurchased 36.82 million shares, representing 1.66% of the shares outstanding at the time of the resolution. All repurchased shares are intended for cancellation.

Following the 22 September cancellations, STANCHART’s issued ordinary share capital stands at 2.18 billion shares. This figure will fall further once the 0.71 million shares awaiting cancellation are removed from the register.
