Sichuan's Summer Grain Harvest Reaches New High for Fifth Consecutive Year, Adding Over 1.5 Billion Jin Annually

On July 15, the Sichuan Survey Team of the National Bureau of Statistics held a press conference to release the province's key livelihood data for the first half of 2026. The data indicates that Sichuan's economy maintained stable and progressive growth in the area of people's livelihoods during this period.

The summer grain harvest achieved another bumper yield. The total output reached 48.39 million metric tons, an increase of 760,000 tons (1.5 billion jin) compared to the previous year, representing a growth of 1.6%. This marks the fifth consecutive year that annual production has increased by more than 1.5 billion jin.

Resident income and consumption saw steady growth. In the first half of the year, the per capita disposable income for Sichuan residents was 19,739 yuan, a nominal year-on-year increase of 5.1%. After adjusting for price factors, the real growth was 4.2%. Per capita consumption expenditure was 12,707 yuan, showing a nominal year-on-year increase of 4.1% and a real growth of 3.2% after price adjustments.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) experienced a moderate rise. For the first half of the year, Sichuan's CPI increased by 0.9% year-on-year. Breaking down the categories, prices for food, tobacco, alcohol, and dining out decreased by 0.9%. Clothing prices rose by 2.0%, while housing costs fell by 0.4%. Prices for household goods and services increased by 1.6%, and transportation and communication costs were up 2.1%. Education, culture, and entertainment prices rose by 1.8%, healthcare costs increased by 3.2%, and prices for other goods and services saw a significant rise of 10.0%. The core CPI, which excludes food and energy prices, increased by 1.3% year-on-year for the first half.

The Producer Price Index (PPI) for industrial products shifted from decline to growth. In the first half, Sichuan's PPI increased by 0.6% year-on-year, turning from a decrease in the first quarter to an increase, up by 1.3 percentage points from the previous quarter and 3.4 percentage points higher than the full-year figure for 2025.

The employment situation remained generally stable. The average surveyed urban unemployment rate in Sichuan for the first half of the year was 5.3%, which is the same as the figure from the same period last year.
