Scale AI Secures $500 Million Pentagon AI Contract with Meta Backing

Scale AI, an artificial intelligence company backed by Meta, has been awarded a $500 million contract by the U.S. Department of Defense to develop an "agent-like AI" system for the Air Force's Survivable Airborne Operations Center project. This represents a fivefold increase compared to the $100 million contract the company received in September 2025.

Dan Tadross, head of public sector business at Scale AI, stated that the Pentagon has "consistently pushed the boundaries" beyond the original contract, with this new agreement demonstrating the Defense Department's proactive adoption of artificial intelligence technologies. In March of this year, Scale AI also entered into a strategic partnership with BAE Systems, planning to integrate agent-like AI capabilities into combat platforms and mission systems.

Scale AI has previously secured multiple defense contracts, including an approximately $99.5 million agreement with the U.S. Army Research Laboratory in August 2025, and a roughly $9.8 million deal to develop the "THUNDERFORGE" generative AI joint planning tool for the Office of the Secretary of Defense.
