Ant Group's Chief Executive Officer, Han Xinyi, issued a company-wide memo on September 21 announcing an organizational restructuring and key personnel appointment at Alipay, aimed at accelerating the company's push into agentic commerce.
Under the new plan, the Alipay Business Group, the Digital Payment Business Group, and the Sesame Credit Business Unit will be consolidated into a single, newly formed Alipay Business Group. Wu Minzhi has been appointed as the President of this newly integrated group, while she will continue to serve concurrently as Ant Group's Chief People Officer.
This move brings Alipay's platform operations, digital payment services, and credit services under one unified leadership structure. Technical, product, and ecosystem resources that were previously scattered across different business segments will now be further integrated, strengthening Alipay's capabilities in both user services and merchant operations.
In his memo, Han Xinyi stated that as AI technology rapidly enters various commercial scenarios, agentic commerce is moving toward large-scale development. The "dual flywheel" strategy Alipay previously introduced, which focuses on building AI capabilities around both user services and merchant operations, is precisely preparation for this shift.
Over the past three years, Alipay has laid groundwork in several key areas, including AI-powered payments, agent trust mechanisms, the AI wallet, the personal life assistant "Abao," the "Tap" feature, and a multi-terminal ecosystem covering phones, car systems, watches, and eyewear.
On the business progress front, "Abao" has, within three months of its launch, driven the AI-enabled upgrade of over 10,000 services and achieved connectivity across terminals such as smartphones, vehicle systems, watches, and glasses. AI payments have established a full-stack product system, completing 300 million AI-powered transactions to date. The "Tap" feature continues to expand its offline payment scenarios and is being used to connect merchants with digital operational services.
According to the direction of this restructuring, the new Alipay Business Group will further centralize its technology, product, and ecosystem capabilities: for users, it will advance the AI wallet and life assistant, while for merchants, it will provide services and operational tools through the Alipay AI open platform.
With payments, credit, and platform entrances now integrated, the development and commercial implementation of Alipay's agentic commerce products will be coordinated by a single business group.
According to public records, Wu Minzhi joined Ant Group in August 2021. Prior to that, she spent more than two decades at Alibaba Group, where she held roles including President of the Alibaba International Trade Business Group, President of the B2B Business Group, and Chief Customer Officer, bringing extensive experience in platform operations and commercial services.
