Hong Kong equities opened mildly higher on Tuesday, with the Hang Seng Index up 0.21% at 23,260.14, the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index adding 0.18% to 7,816.49, and the Hang Seng Tech Index outperforming with a 0.74% rise to 3,886.18 as chip and hardware counters attracted early buying.

5. Opening Summary

The Hang Seng Index kicked off Tuesday’s session with a cautious uptick, tracking steadier overnight sentiment on Wall Street. Modest buying in blue chips helped the benchmark edge 0.21% higher to 23,260, while the HSCEI rose 0.18%. The Hang Seng Tech Index outperformed, climbing 0.74% to 3,886 as investors rotated back into growth counters.

Semiconductor and hardware names led early gains after upbeat earnings guidance from global chipmakers, driving SMIC up more than 2% and lifting Hua Hong and Lenovo. Alibaba and Tencent also traded firmer, adding to the tech-heavy index’s resilience against drags from Xiaomi and Meituan.

Standout individual moves included Lenovo’s 5% surge on the heels of strong PC shipment data, while ASMPT and ZJ Innolight rallied on demand recovery hopes for advanced packaging and optical components. On the downside, biotech DualityBio and recreational vehicle maker New Gonow slid nearly 15% each, extending recent volatility in smaller-cap growth names.

PCB makers, chip equipment suppliers and battery material plays such as Kinwong, KB Laminates and Ganfeng Lithium featured prominently among the top gainers, pointing to a revival of interest in hardware supply-chain beneficiaries. No major IPOs debuted at the open, though traders are monitoring the calendar for several technology listings slated for November.
