On Monday, U.S. space-related stocks rose sharply at the opening, with BlackSky Technology Inc. (BKSY.US) surging nearly 20%, Redwire (RDW.US) climbing over 7%, Rocket Lab (RKLB.US) gaining nearly 7%, and AST SpaceMobile (ASTS.US) advancing close to 6%.
The rally followed BlackSky Technology's recent announcement that it had activated its third-generation satellite for commercial use just 21 days after launch. The company stated that the satellite expands access to 35 cm high-resolution imagery and automated AI analysis through its Spectra platform.
Additionally, the U.S. is accelerating its largest military space deployment since the Cold War. The Pentagon has awarded $3.5 billion in military satellite contracts, signaling an unprecedented push to integrate civilian space exploration with military strategy. This follows an executive order by former President Trump prioritizing manned lunar missions, establishing a moon base, and developing space-based defense systems.
