New Pull-Ups Technology Aims to Help Children Distinguish Wet from Dry During Potty Training

Deep News06-09

Kimberly-Clark's Pull-Ups brand has introduced a new Learning Layer technology designed to assist children in potty training by helping them perceive the moment of wetness, thereby building an understanding of the difference between dry and wet to boost confidence in independent toilet use.

Traditional potty training methods often struggle to balance letting a child feel wetness with providing leak protection. The Learning Layer technology from Pull-Ups features a special structural design that briefly delays liquid absorption upon an accident, allowing the child to feel a sensation of wetness for a few seconds. The inner core then rapidly absorbs and locks in the moisture to ensure skin stays dry. This "briefly wet, long-lasting dry" design turns each accident into a teaching moment, helping children gradually build the connection between bodily sensation and toilet behavior.

Todd Fisher, General Manager of Kimberly-Clark Canada, stated that by making the difference between dry and wet perceptible, they are not just introducing a new feature but helping families transform stressful moments into meaningful shared experiences. Dan Jackson, Vice President of Pull-Ups North America, added that this innovation helps turn everyday moments into meaningful learning experiences, fostering a "big-kid confidence."

In addition to the Learning Layer technology, Pull-Ups training pants retain their signature refastenable side panels for easy changes by parents. The products also continue to feature Disney character designs and a wetness indicator that fades when wet, encouraging children to stay dry. The products are dermatologically tested and suitable for sensitive skin.

To promote this innovation, Pull-Ups has partnered with Kylie Kelce, a mother of four and podcast host. The brand has also introduced animated characters named Terd and Yureen, representing hesitation and encouragement during potty training, to humorously and authentically accompany families through this milestone.

Pull-Ups training pants featuring the Learning Layer technology are now available for sale at major retailers in the United States and Canada, including Target, Walmart, and Amazon.
