Data released by the Korea Exchange on Tuesday reveals that the average daily trading value on South Korea's main stock index fell to its lowest level this year in August, following a significant decline in July.
According to the Korea Exchange, the average daily turnover for the KOSPI this month was slightly above 25.7 trillion won (approximately $18.2 billion). This marks the lowest figure since January, when the daily average stood at 27 trillion won.
During the rally in May and June, the KOSPI's daily trading value had surpassed the 50 trillion won mark. After the record-breaking market slump in July, the daily average dropped to 36.8 trillion won last month.
Kim Seok-hwan, an analyst at Mirae Asset Securities, commented, "In the first half of 2026, trading activity in the domestic stock market was exceptionally heated." He noted that the recent pullback in daily trading value reflects a return to normalcy for what had been an overheated equity market.
