Moving beyond a reactive model of adding capacity only after load increases, and based on Jinshan's positioning as a distinctive hub for digital intelligence empowerment, the company accurately forecasted long-term electricity demand growth from AI computing and new materials industries. It proactively commissioned two substations to support computing power infrastructure, reserving sufficient power capacity for the implementation of the digital economy.
Electricity sales data for the first half of 2026 shows a total of 4.141 billion kilowatt-hours sold in the district, a year-on-year increase of 9.99%, with a growth rate significantly higher than the city's average. Notably, electricity consumption in the information transmission, software, and information technology services sector reached 296 million kilowatt-hours, surging 51.79% year-on-year, indicating that AI computing power and the digital industry have become the core drivers of electricity demand growth.
This summer presents unprecedented pressure on the power supply system due to the convergence of three peak demand factors: continuous industrial production loads, sustained AI computing power consumption, and residential cooling demand during high temperatures. Leveraging previous upgrades to the backbone grid and the implementation of digital transformation achievements like online monitoring of all equipment, the grid has maintained stable and resilient operation throughout, fully demonstrating the effectiveness of grid construction efforts.
The rising industrial electricity consumption vividly illustrates the successful implementation of Jinshan's "shared origins and supply chains" development framework. As an administrative district with a high proportion of industrial activity, Jinshan features tightly linked upstream and downstream industries and prominent demands for continuous production.
To address this, Jinshan Power Supply Company has innovatively implemented a coordinated "industrial chain + power supply chain" guarantee mechanism. It has established special task forces for major electricity consumption projects and implemented a dual-project-manager responsibility system, moving service engagement forward to the project planning stage and extending service coverage to the "last mile."
For key platforms like the Carbon Valley Green Bay high-end chemical industrial park and the Lexus new energy vehicle and supporting industry chain, these task forces have developed one-on-one high-reliability power supply plans, constructing dual-circuit and multi-source backup lines to ensure uninterrupted and stable production line operation. For various AI computing centers, green channels for power access have been established, with dynamic optimization of grid operation modes and on-demand release of load capacity.
In the first half of 2026, the company completed power connection for 36 major district-level industrial projects, providing solid power support for the establishment of advanced manufacturing clusters worth tens of billions. Amid the overlapping demands from industry and residents, grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems have become a crucial buffer for peak shaving and supply assurance, while also injecting green momentum into the construction of an ecological Jinshan. Jinshan is a leading area in the city for grid-connected PV scale, with widespread deployment of commercial & industrial distributed, residential, and non-residential PV systems within the company's service area.
Jinshan Power Supply Company actively guides various market entities to participate in PV development and grid connection. It coordinates efforts to simplify PV grid connection procedures, upgrade existing stations for enhanced observability, measurability, adjustability, and controllability, and implement coordinated dispatch of sources, grid, load, and storage, fully tapping into the potential of PV systems for midday peak shaving. On the day the new load record was set, the district's distributed PV systems collectively contributed a peak output of 553.14 megawatts, directly offsetting a significant portion of the peak electricity demand and effectively alleviating pressure on the main grid.
"Peak electricity usage is mainly concentrated around 10:30 AM and between 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM. The afternoon period represents the highest peak of the day, significantly driven by industrial and air conditioning loads," stated Xu Bingyan, Director of the Dispatch and Control Center at State Grid Shanghai Jinshan Power Supply Company. Influenced by a strong El Niño event this year, the company has completed its 2026 summer peak load forecast, conducted N-1 and N-2 security checks for substations, and will monitor loads in real-time, dynamically adjust operation modes, and specifically update power supply guarantee plans for key users like chemical plants, closely watching load changes in hotspot areas. Simultaneously, it will strengthen dispatch duty arrangements and improve emergency repair efficiency in response to extreme weather events like typhoons.
Currently, 17 existing PV power stations in the jurisdiction have been upgraded for enhanced observability, measurability, adjustability, and controllability. The dispatch center can now forecast PV output in real-time, prioritizing the matching of midday electricity demand from industrial parks and computing centers, thereby achieving local production and consumption of green electricity.
Building upon the foundation of a robust industrial power supply guarantee and green peak-shaving system, and leveraging its "Rural E-Home" service brand, Jinshan Power Supply Company extends high-quality power supply services to the grassroots level of urban and rural governance. The company has assigned managers for each transformer area, routinely conducting rural line inspections, offering free electricity check-ups for farmers, providing PV operation and maintenance guidance, and diagnosing electricity usage for agriculture-related industries.
Additionally, a Youth Employee Power Supply Station has been established in the Caojing Town service hotspot to better serve economic and social development. In the first half of 2026, electricity sales for residential use in Jinshan's urban and rural areas reached 445 million kilowatt-hours, a 6.97% year-on-year increase. Concurrently, projects for upgrading old residential community grids and strengthening rural distribution networks have been implemented, leading to a steady and continuous improvement in urban and rural power supply reliability and public satisfaction with electricity services.
