South Korean Stocks Plunge 5.5% While Bitcoin Rebounds 40%: Is the AI Bubble Bursting?

Stock News10-13 21:57

According to Woofun AI, concerns in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector have intensified sharply, triggering a fierce sell-off in the KOSPI, while Bitcoin has moved in a markedly divergent direction.

During Tuesday's Asian trading session, the KOSPI fell 5.5% in a single day and has now dropped about 38% from its all-time high set in June.

In stark contrast, Bitcoin briefly dipped to around $58,000 after South Korean stocks peaked, then staged a strong rebound of more than 40%, pulling back to around $81,000 during Tuesday's Asian session before climbing back above $83,000.

This dramatic divergence in price action highlights a structural shift in market risk appetite.

From a technical perspective, the weekly chart reveals a fundamental change in the relationship between the two.

Data compiled by Woofun AI shows that the 20-day rolling correlation coefficient between Bitcoin and the KOSPI has fallen to -0.41, showing a clear negative correlation.

This data suggests that as investors gradually reduce their exposure to the AI sector, capital may be flowing into alternative assets such as Bitcoin.

However, the correlation coefficient alone is not enough to fully clarify the ultimate direction of capital flows, and market uncertainty remains high.

The decline was mainly driven by concerns over industry fundamentals.

The Financial Times noted that Broadcom (AVGO.US) CEO Hock Tan compared speculative AI investment to casino gambling, intensifying market doubts about whether massive infrastructure spending can generate sufficient returns.
