Data released by the Bank of Korea on Tuesday showed that South Korea's economy grew 1% quarter-on-quarter in the third quarter of this year, driven by strong growth in exports and investment.
According to preliminary data from the Bank of Korea, the country's real gross domestic product (GDP) — a key indicator of economic growth — rose 1% during the July-to-September period compared with the previous three months.
The third-quarter figure was faster than the 0.6% increase recorded in the prior quarter and exceeded the Bank of Korea's earlier forecast of 0.3% made in August.
Fueled by an artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure boom and the resulting rise in global semiconductor demand, South Korea's economy achieved 1.8% growth in the first quarter of 2026 — its strongest quarterly performance since the third quarter of 2020, when the economy expanded 2.2%.
