The inaugural practical training session was held on April 28 at the Ship Inspection and Supervision Practical Training Base of the Hangzhou Maritime Safety Administration. Personnel from ship inspection and supervision roles, along with participants in skills competitions, gathered to enhance their practical capabilities through an integrated approach combining theoretical instruction and live demonstrations. This initiative aims to inject professional expertise into ensuring shipping safety and high-quality development in the region. Ship inspection and supervision serve as the primary defense for ensuring the inherent safety of vessels. The training focused on practical application, covering the entire shipbuilding process and key testing phases: it provided a systematic explanation from raw material processing to final vessel delivery, outlining shipyard quality control systems; organized live observations of pressure and tightness tests for ship piping systems to help participants grasp inspection standards visually; and offered detailed explanations of key vessel systems, complemented by onboard visits to strengthen the application of inspection protocols. A participant commented, "Previously, some regulatory provisions were not fully understood. Through this onboard observation, I gained a more intuitive understanding of critical aspects such as welding procedure approval and structural strength inspections." The exchange and discussion sessions allowed attendees to share challenging cases from their work and collaboratively seek solutions, effectively bridging the gap between theory and practice. Improving the level of ship inspection and supervision is directly linked to shipbuilding quality, maritime safety, and the healthy development of the local shipping economy. A representative from the Hangzhou Maritime Safety Administration stated that the launch of this training base will serve as an opportunity to conduct regular, standardized training sessions, continuously building a high-quality, professional ship inspection and supervision team. This will provide more efficient and standardized technical support for regional shipping enterprises, contributing to the high-quality development of the local shipping economy through superior regulatory services.
