Zhongyu Energy Publishes 2025 ESG Report: Operational Emissions Fall 3%, Service Network Tops 5.40 Million Households

Bulletin Express04-24 23:05

Zhongyu Energy released its 2025 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report, detailing progress in decarbonisation, safety management and community engagement across its nationwide gas and smart-energy network.

Key operating footprint • The Group held 74 city-gas concessions in 11 provinces, operated 28,597 km of pipelines and managed 237 smart-energy projects. • Customer base reached 35,340 industrial/commercial clients and approximately 5.40 million residential households.

Climate metrics and resource use • Direct and energy-indirect (Scope 1 + 2) greenhouse-gas emissions totalled 27,439.6 tonnes CO₂-e, down 3 % year-on-year; intensity fell to 5.4 tonnes CO₂-e per employee. • Other indirect (Scope 3) emissions were 8.91 million tonnes CO₂-e, of which 6.96 million tonnes stemmed from end-user combustion of sold natural gas (Category 11). • Total energy consumption was 288,680.3 GJ, while water use stood at 99,208.8 m³. • Air-pollutant releases comprised 9,795.2 kg NOx, 394.8 kg particulate matter and 49.1 kg SOx. • Hazardous and non-hazardous waste generated were 2.2 tonnes and 221.0 tonnes respectively.

Transition initiatives • The Group advanced biomass gasification, distributed renewable projects and hydrogen pilots, and integrated an AI-enabled “Zhongyu Smart Engine” for predictive maintenance and multi-energy scheduling. • Green-finance momentum continued, earning accolades including the “Green and Sustainable Loan Issuer Contribution Commendation (Public Utilities)” and dual “Gold Seal for Contribution to Sustainable Property/Facility”.

Safety and workforce • No work-related fatalities were recorded; lost-time injury days totalled 40. • A 24-hour smart emergency platform, drone patrols and LNG station laser-leak detection underpin zero major safety incidents. • Workforce numbered 5,080 (66 % male, 34 % female). Average training hours reached 56.7 per employee; 884 staff, including directors, completed anti-corruption courses. • Supplier base comprised 80 entities, over 90 % certified to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.

Community engagement • Zhongyu Energy held 543 charitable and safety-education events during the year, contributing 46,238 volunteer hours. The long-running “Golden Autumn Scholarship” has now supported nearly 1,000 students since inception.

Governance enhancements • ESG oversight is anchored by the board-level ESG Committee; climate risk has been integrated into the Group’s enterprise risk framework. Three rounds of unannounced safety audits covered nine subsidiaries and rectified more than 200 hazards.

Looking ahead, Zhongyu Energy plans to refine long-term decarbonisation targets, deepen climate-risk scenario analysis and expand integrated zero-carbon solutions aligned with China’s “dual-carbon” goals.
