Tesla's Advanced Driver Assistance System Receives Approval in Denmark

Deep News00:41

Electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla Motors has received authorization to launch its suite of advanced driver-assistance features in Denmark.

This development represents a significant positive step for the company, which is actively working to expand the availability of this technology into more markets worldwide.

The Danish Road Traffic Authority announced on Tuesday that it will permit Tesla owners to utilize the company's Full Self-Driving (supervised) system. This system is designed to assist with lane changes and navigating around other vehicles and objects. The authority stated that the approval was granted as the system is considered beneficial for improving road safety.

Tesla Motors posted on a social media platform that it will soon begin rolling out the technology in Denmark. According to information on Tesla's website, the Full Self-Driving (FSD) system does not enable fully autonomous vehicle operation and is intended for use only by a fully attentive driver.

With this decision, Denmark becomes the fourth European Union member state to approve FSD, following earlier approvals in Estonia, Lithuania, and the Netherlands. The Netherlands Vehicle Authority (RDW) stated in April of this year that the system underwent over a year and a half of testing and, when used correctly, has a positive effect on road safety.

The Dutch authority has submitted an application for this technology to be approved across the entire European Union. However, while EU bodies review this application, individual member states have the option to provisionally recognize the Dutch approval, thereby allowing Tesla to deploy FSD.

The Danish Road Traffic Authority indicated that, pending a Union-wide decision, it has chosen to temporarily recognize the Dutch approval. Should the system be rejected by the EU, the Dutch approval would expire after six months, and Denmark's authorization would consequently become invalid.
