In the wake of Typhoon Zitan (the 19th of the season), persistent heavy rain and localized extreme downpours have battered multiple areas of Chongzuo, Guangxi. Rivers across Ningming County have surged past warning levels, prompting local authorities to elevate the flood control emergency response to the highest tier. As the disaster unfolded, JD.com activated its emergency response mechanism without delay, coordinating with the Guangxi Department of Commerce and the Ningming County Party Committee and Government to procure and donate essential living supplies including bottled water, instant noodles, bread, and congee.
Prioritizing personnel safety, JD Logistics dispatched dedicated staff and vehicles from its Nanning Asia One logistics park to transport these supplies to the disaster zone in Ningming County tonight, providing full support to local flood control and rescue operations. Additionally, JD Health swiftly mobilized 19,000 units of emergency medical supplies for the affected areas. Addressing the urgent needs of flood-affected residents for skin cleansing, wound protection, and treatment of mild dermatitis, the donation includes cotton swabs, iodophor cotton balls, sterile dressing change kits, breathable bandages, and dermatological medications designed to alleviate non-infectious skin conditions caused by water exposure and insect bites, effectively easing the strain on frontline medical resources.
This marks the second time in just over a month that JD.com has extended a helping hand to Guangxi's disaster-hit regions. In July of this year, responding to flooding triggered by Typhoon Maysak, JD.com was among the first to donate nearly 40,000 units of daily necessities to disaster zones including Hengzhou, Nanning. At that time, 27 delivery personnel and transport drivers from JD Logistics' Hengzhou and Liujing branches worked collectively in the rain to unload goods, sparing no effort to ensure timely delivery of supplies. The company also deployed multiple emergency drones to assist frontline operations, executing a comprehensive "land, water, and air" rescue effort. JD Health likewise contributed emergency health relief materials, including 21,000 items such as trauma first-aid supplies, epidemic prevention and disinfection products, and essential medications, alongside 2,000 doses of snakebite antivenom for on-site emergency preparedness against snake and insect bites.
"Seeing Guangxi hit by such severe floods repeatedly is truly disheartening," remarked Xu Mingdong, warehouse manager at JD Logistics' Nanning Asia One facility. "This is my second time participating in a Guangxi rescue mission. Upon receiving the donation request, my colleagues and I immediately inventoried goods and arranged for shipment and loading, ensuring supplies reach the disaster area at the fastest possible speed." Furthermore, JD Logistics' drone team stands ready for flood prevention duties, capable of supporting local emergency response needs including transport of relief materials, rescue route planning, personnel evacuation guidance, road damage assessment, landslide hazard surveying, flood extent monitoring, and epidemic prevention disinfection when necessary.
This rapid and efficient emergency support stems from JD.com's longstanding disaster relief principles. Richard Liu, founder and chairman of the board of JD.com, established an internal policy stipulating that in the event of any disaster nationwide, warehouse managers at nearby facilities have the authority to donate supplies needed by affected areas without prior approval. Simultaneously, JD.com forms an emergency support team to guarantee dedicated vehicles and routes for relief materials. Looking ahead, JD.com will continue to monitor disaster developments and on-the-ground needs under the unified guidance of local government authorities, ensuring seamless deployment and transportation of subsequent supplies while actively contributing to flood control and post-disaster recovery efforts.
