Shares of Applied Optoelectronics (AAOI) soared 5.25% during the morning trading session on Tuesday, marking a significant upward move for the fiber-optic networking components maker.
The surge follows the company's announcement that it has partnered with Mediacom Communications to accelerate the upgrade and expansion of Mediacom's fiber-coax network as it transitions to DOCSIS 4.0 technology. Applied Optoelectronics will serve as the primary vendor for the project, supplying its Quantum18 smart amplifiers and QuantumLink remote management software across Mediacom's legacy infrastructure.
This strategic partnership is expected to support Mediacom's goal of delivering faster upload and download speeds to 1 million homes by the end of 2026, positioning AOI to benefit from a major network upgrade cycle in the broadband industry.
