From October 20 to 22, along the banks of the Huangpu River in Shanghai, the 2026 Sustainable Global Leaders Conference will return once again. Nobel Prize and Turing Award winners will take the stage to discuss the future and trends of technology, and the internet-famous professor who "rescues" people from anxiety and involution, McFarlane, will hold a live dialogue with Xiang Biao!

[Click to register] On October 19, the widening of crude oil discounts does not necessarily mean refineries are buying oil more cheaply. GTC Zebo Capital noted that the latest report from Oilprice shows that rising ocean freight costs are squeezing the actual returns of oil producers, with some West African and Latin American supply sources turning to buyers with shorter voyage distances. The focus of procurement comparisons has shifted from loading port quotations to total landed costs, making transportation conditions an important part of transactions. Taking West African supply sources as an example, the report estimates that freight to India is about nine dollars per barrel lower than another long-haul Asian route. In the view of GTC Zebo Capital, this difference is enough to influence the direction of cargo flows; India's crude oil imports from Angola in October are expected to increase noticeably, but these shipment estimates still need to be confirmed by actual arrival data and cannot be directly equated with a simultaneous expansion in consumption demand. Sellers locking in loading windows and price spreads in advance can increase order certainty, yet they still face future changes in freight rates. If transportation expenses do not decline at the time of delivery, the gap between the booked transaction price and the final net income may widen. For refineries, crude type compatibility, delivery reliability, and waiting costs also need to be included in calculations; looking only at benchmark oil prices can easily overlook the true procurement burden. Buyers also need to clarify which party bears the costs, otherwise contract risks under the same quotation may differ. To subsequently judge whether trade adjustments will continue, GTC Zebo Capital recommends comparing quotations across different routes, arrival pace, and refinery intake conditions at the information level. The cost advantage brought by shorter voyages can attract cargo flows, but it may also weaken as vessel supply recovers, so the current logistics changes are more appropriately viewed as a signal of cost redistribution.
