SMIC was blacklisted by US late last year citing national security and human rights violations as reasons. No concrete evidence was provided. This has drastically affeced her production of top end semiconductor chips due to inability to import the required lithography machines from ASML. Nevertheless, she continues to do a booming business for lower end chips. Her 1H21 net profit was up 278% & her share price has rocketed from ∼HKD12 early last year to HKD24 today. China is the world largest semiconductor market. Since 2018, her annual import has exceeded USD300 billion dollars. The embargo imposed by the US will force China to seek for self-sufficiency. This will benefit SMIC tremendously. I have added her into my watchlist.
