The central bank has released its financial market operations report for May, detailing activity in the gold market.
As of the end of May 2026, the Au (T+D) contract on the Shanghai Gold Exchange settled at 984.0 yuan per gram, representing a month-on-month decline of 3.0%.
During the month of May, the total trading volume for gold on the Shanghai Gold Exchange reached 5,521.8 tonnes, marking a year-on-year increase of 2.8%.
Conversely, gold trading volume on the Shanghai Futures Exchange was reported at 11,000 tonnes for the same period, which is a significant year-on-year decrease of 54.6%.
