Viettel, a telecommunications company in Vietnam, has entered into a partnership with Qualcomm through a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop smartphones equipped with artificial intelligence. The collaboration between Viettel and Qualcomm aims to advance the production of AI smartphones, utilizing Qualcomm's AI technology to develop Viettel AI phones and drive innovation in Vietnam's next-generation AI smartphone sector through mobile technology cooperation. According to a statement released by Viettel, the agreement requires Qualcomm to provide reference designs and technical support, while Viettel will be responsible for product manufacturing and sales. This partnership reflects Viettel's commitment to developing new products, as the company seeks to introduce AI into consumer products through collaboration with Qualcomm in mobile chip design and AI technology. Viettel has not yet provided a specific timeline for when the AI smartphones will enter production. The cooperation indicates that Viettel plans to develop new technological capabilities that will extend beyond its existing telecommunications services business. Additionally, Viettel will collaborate with Qualcomm to promote 6G network development through its global alliance, while continuing to maintain its mobile network testing partnership with Francisco Partners, which began in 2023. This new initiative supports Viettel's plan to expand its business scope, including digital products, security solutions, and defense technology, which will help the company maintain its position as Vietnam's largest mobile service provider by number of subscribers.
