Unlocking Intellectual Property Value to Fuel Maoming Coastal New Area's Maritime Ambitions

Deep News12-02

Maoming Coastal New Area, as a key battleground for industrial development, is building a modern industrial system centered on green chemicals, marine economy, and port-related industries. In this process, the systematic cultivation of intellectual property (IP) has become deeply integrated with industrial upgrading, injecting robust innovation momentum into the area's maritime ambitions.

▋ IP Emerges as Core Engine for Technological Innovation Guangdong Jifeng Energy Project has pioneered China's first novel urea production pathway using ultra-low energy (ULE) CO₂ stripping patented technology. The project will establish a modern production base with an annual capacity of 2 million tons of urea, expected to drive over 2 billion yuan in industrial chain value post-operation.

Guangdong Yuedian Bohe Energy Company achieved breakthrough improvements in safety and production efficiency through the transformation of 50 innovation achievements and 6 software copyrights, enabling deep integration of intelligent and automated power systems. In 2024, its production capacity doubled to exceed 4 billion yuan, generating over 230 million yuan in annual tax revenue while fostering coordinated development across upstream and downstream enterprises like Wilmar International, Donghua Energy, and Jifeng Energy. This outstanding "energy efficiency report card" exemplifies the effective application of IP transformation.

▋ IP Innovation Resolves Industrial Bottlenecks Driven by continuous IP advancement, Maoming Coastal New Area reported impressive economic indicators from January to September 2025: 8.451 billion yuan in industrial output value and 2.681 billion yuan in total foreign trade among 55 large-scale enterprises. These figures demonstrate IP's growing role as a core engine for high-quality economic development.

Following the 2024 launch of the National Intellectual Property Administration's Maoming trademark service window, local authorities have actively optimized the IP ecosystem. The Coastal New Area branch of Maoming Market Supervision Bureau provides on-site "checklist-style" guidance, offering free services including patent applications, rights protection assistance, and specialized training. Through 6 large-scale workshops and 50 small exchanges covering 150+ enterprises and 400+ participants, they've built industry-academia collaboration bridges with institutions like Guangdong Petrochemical University, successfully helping multiple companies secure national IP subsidies.

The area added 78 newly authorized patents, bringing the total to 431, with 50+ applications pending (a 59% YoY increase). It also registered 217 trademarks and cultivated 39 new authorized patents, including 20+ high-value patents, reflecting sustained growth in corporate innovation vitality.

▋ Strengthened IP Protection Framework The bureau established an "IP Rights Protection Assistance Station" extending anti-infringement efforts to remote communities. It efficiently resolved 36 trademark disputes and investigated 9 infringement cases, becoming a crucial part of the city's protection network. Notably, authorities dismantled a major counterfeit international cosmetics operation, seizing 10,800 bottles of fake perfumes from 4 brands worth over 5 million yuan—a case promoted nationwide as exemplary. This and another counterfeit sales case valued at 130,000+ yuan were transferred to police, underscoring the determination to safeguard innovation through rigorous IP enforcement.
