In recent days, with spring sunshine at its best, thousands of acres of orchards in Weng Village, Yangyu Town, Wenxi County are blanketed with pristine apple blossoms. Farmers are seizing the season to thin flowers and set fruit, laying the groundwork for a bountiful autumn apple harvest. Entering Weng Village feels like being surrounded by a sea of flowers. Layers of apple blossoms resemble light snow covering the branches or delicate gauze draping over fresh greenery. Amid the blossoms, fruit growers busily move about, performing deep tillage in the orchards while carefully thinning excess blooms. "Thinning involves removing axillary flower buds and weak branches or blossoms, keeping only the plump buds to ensure high yields later in autumn," explained farmer Dong Pingbian as he worked. After thinning, nutrients become concentrated, resulting in larger apples, better quality, and naturally higher production. Yangyu Town is situated in the heart of the Loess Plateau and Emei Ridge, at an altitude of 750 meters. It benefits from long sunlight hours and significant day-night temperature variations, meeting globally recognized conditions for growing premium apples. The area is recognized as an optimal ecological planting zone for high-quality apples and has been designated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs as a demonstration base for pollution-free apple production. Among Yangyu's apples, those from Weng Village are considered the finest. Weng Village's apple cultivation industry dates back to the 1980s. In recent years, with strong support from the Yangyu Town Party Committee and government, the village has continued to extend its apple industry chain. Building on brand characteristics, it has optimized production structures and focused on developing apple processing industries. By adopting a cooperative business model featuring "unified training, branding, management, harvesting, packaging, and sales," the village has boosted residents' incomes. The village has vigorously promoted the Red Fuji variety, with contiguous orchard planting areas expanding to over 1,200 acres. Thanks to their excellent quality, Weng Village apples sell well across the country, generating an average profit exceeding 10,000 yuan per acre.
