At the opening ceremony of Hunan Agricultural University on September 16, He Yonghui, a freshman from the Xiangjiang Excellent Engineer College, took the stage as the student representative. Growing up in a rural village, he witnessed firsthand the hard labor of his fellow villagers. He openly shared that his decision to attend Hunan Agricultural University stems from a deep desire to acquire practical skills, noting that the hilly terrain of Hunan poses difficulties for elderly farmers operating machinery, and he hopes to use his future knowledge to assist the elders in his hometown.
He emphasized that he refuses to be just a young man who leaves the mountains; instead, he aspires to be a youth who returns to the countryside. He is determined to follow in the footsteps of generations of agricultural university graduates, committing himself to the soil and contributing to rural revitalization.
While touring the campus, he saw the statue of Academician Yuan Longping, and the words “A person is like a seed; strive to be a good seed” resonated deeply with him. He Yonghui admitted that he himself is a seed that came out of the mountains, lifted up by countless hands. Along his journey, his family, teachers, and many kind-hearted people have provided him warmth and support, helping him overcome challenges to reach the university. He expressed that in the future, he hopes to take root and grow here, living up to the kindness and expectations of everyone who has supported him.
He Yonghui has suffered from leg ailments since childhood, enduring multiple surgeries and lengthy rehabilitation. Despite his difficult path to education, he has never halted his steps.
