Tech Giants NVIDIA and Amazon Suspend Dubai Operations Amid Middle East Tensions

Following the joint U.S. and Israeli military action against Iran over the weekend, major technology firms including NVIDIA, Amazon.com, and Alphabet (Google's parent company) are taking urgent measures to safeguard employees based or traveling in the Middle East.

The large-scale attack on Iran resulted in the deaths of senior figures, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran subsequently retaliated by targeting Israeli and U.S. military installations across the Gulf region. The conflict has disrupted civilian life, internet services, flight routes, and regional energy transport in affected areas.

According to an internal email reviewed by CNBC, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang notified staff early Tuesday that the company is temporarily closing its Dubai office, with local employees shifting to remote work. In the memo, Huang stated that NVIDIA's crisis management team is operating around the clock, actively supporting affected employees and their families in the Middle East, including approximately 6,000 NVIDIA staff based in Israel.

Huang confirmed that, as of Tuesday morning, all NVIDIA employees and their immediate family members impacted by the conflict were safe. "NVIDIA has deep roots in the region," he wrote. "We have thousands of colleagues living there, and many more employees globally have friends and family affected by these events. Like everyone, I am deeply concerned for the safety of every NVIDIA family."

Amazon.com, which has been expanding its Middle East operations in recent years, is also adjusting its local activities in response to the escalating conflict. The company has instructed all corporate employees in the region to work remotely and to "adhere to local government guidelines."
