Shandong Province's Qixia City is currently in the peak harvest season for its late-picked Fuji apples, known as "Frost Fuji," which are typically harvested around 45 days later than regular Fuji varieties after the Frost Descent solar term.
In recent years, Qixia has actively promoted post-frost harvesting for late-maturing apple varieties. With government guidance, local farmers have adopted smart orchard upgrades, implementing precision irrigation and fertilization systems to ensure each apple maintains a sugar content above 17 degrees Brix.
The city now boasts over 6,000 acres of smart orchards. Compared to traditional methods, these orchards require less labor, achieve more stable yields, and consistently produce higher-quality apples, significantly boosting farmers' incomes.
