U.S. daylight saving time begins on Sunday, March 12, 2023. at 2:00 a.m. The clocks will be moved forward from 2:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m.

At that time, the regular trading period of the US stock market will become:

Beijing Time/SGT: 21:30 p.m. to 04:00 a.m.

AEDT Time (Australian Eastern Daylight Time): 00:30 a.m. to 07:00 a.m.

NZDT Time (New Zealand Daylight Time): 02:30 a.m. to 09:00 a.m.

Daylight saving time will end on Nov. 5 this year. The federal Energy Policy Act of 2005 decreed that standard time starts on the first Sunday of November.

Background

In 1918, the U.S. enacted the first Daylight Saving Time law as a way to conserve fuel. It was reintroduced during World War II.

In 1973, President Nixon signed into law the Emergency Daylight Saving Time Energy Conservation Act, which made DST permanent in the U.S. This helped reduce confusion throughout the country with some regions of the U.S. participating in the practice and some regions opting out.
