The Guangzhou Municipal Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision recently issued a public notification regarding five typical cases of violations against the spirit of the Eight Central Regulations.

Among them was the case of Li Hongwei, former District Mayor of Huangpu District, for violations involving improperly accepting banquets and receiving gifts and money.

From 2015 to 2018, Li Hongwei repeatedly accepted birthday banquet arrangements from a private business owner, receiving a total of 80,000 yuan in gift money during these birthday celebrations, as well as luxury gifts including Hermes International SA brand ties, scarves, and wallets. Li Hongwei also had other serious disciplinary and legal violations, resulting in his expulsion from the Party, with suspected criminal issues transferred to the procuratorate for legal review and prosecution.

According to public records, Li Hongwei was born in November 1966 in Huai'an City, Jiangsu Province, and holds a doctoral degree in science.

Li Hongwei previously served as the District Mayor of Guangzhou Luogang District and other positions. In 2014, when Huangpu District and Luogang District merged to establish the new Huangpu District, Li Hongwei served as the District Mayor of Huangpu District. In 2016, he was transferred to serve as Deputy Secretary-General of Guangzhou Municipal Government, stepping down in 2020.
