"Originally priced at 204 RMB, I used a 40 RMB discount coupon and only paid 164 RMB—what a great deal!" On December 9, at the "Supply and Marketing Fair" in Dragon King Pool Park, local resident Tashi happily shared his bargain while holding a large bag of freshly purchased yak meat jerky. His smile, along with the bustling crowd, painted the warmest scene of Lhasa's early winter morning.
This event, titled "Snowy Treasures: Supply and Marketing for the People," is a consumer assistance initiative organized by the Tibet Autonomous Region. The park was filled with the rich aroma of yak meat jerky and the sweet fragrance of dairy products. Neatly arranged stalls showcased an array of specialties: brightly colored dried meats, exquisitely packaged highland barley products, and rich dairy products from the plateau. The enthusiasm of urban consumers met the treasures of the grasslands, creating a lively symphony of haggling, packaging, and cheerful exchanges.
Following the enticing scent of meat and enthusiastic greetings, Renqing Labu, director of the Bangor County Supply and Marketing Cooperative, stood at his company’s booth, eagerly promoting their products: "Try it—100% grass-fed, guaranteed to be delicious!" Behind him, neatly stacked beef and lamb from Langqin Trading Co., Ltd. gleamed with freshness. As a first-time participant in this regional fair, their 13,000 pounds of beef and 3,500 pounds of lamb were highly sought after. "The prices are the same as in Bangor County," Renqing Labu said with a smile. "We sold over 20,000 RMB worth yesterday, and at this rate, we’ll sell out by this afternoon."
Adjacent to the meat section, another lively scene unfolded. The booth of Tibet Zangyuan Highland Barley Technology Co., Ltd. was crowded with shoppers sampling and purchasing products. Marketing director Tashi Dhondup efficiently packed orders while explaining, "Besides instant discounts via WeChat Pay, we’re offering an extra 10% factory subsidy, making it much cheaper than market prices." He noted that their best daily sales exceeded 30,000 RMB, with repeat customers drawn to their locally sourced fresh highland barley products.
The fair, running from December 6 to December 10, featured 70 enterprises across 35 booths from seven cities in the region. Products ranged from agricultural goods to clothing and forest resources, all carefully vetted by the Tibet Autonomous Region Supply and Marketing Cooperative with no participation fees. Notably, the Chengguan District government allocated 500,000 RMB in subsidies, allowing consumers to enjoy instant discounts through WeChat Pay, with over two-thirds of vendors accepting coupons.
"Business is booming—just the yak meat stalls alone generate around 180,000 RMB in daily sales," said Deqing Quzhen, director of the Tibet Autonomous Region Supply and Marketing Cooperative’s supervisory board. "The key is that this platform benefits both consumers and farmers, creating a win-win situation." From pastures to stalls, from producers to buyers, this vibrant fair has become a warm current connecting urban and rural areas, painting a hopeful picture of shared prosperity.
