Meituan's Lead Researcher Behind LongCat Project Departs to Launch Multimodal AI Startup

Industry sources revealed on the morning of August 28 that Gu Qi, Principal Researcher of the LongCat Team and head of the General Agent division at Meituan, is set to leave the company. According to reports, Gu Qi plans to venture into entrepreneurship within the multimodal model space and has already initiated discussions with venture capital investors.

Public records indicate that Gu Qi served as a core contributor to the LongCat series of models and led the development of the LongCat-Flash-Thinking-2601 model. He holds a degree from the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Tsinghua University and, prior to joining Meituan, held research positions at ByteDance's Seed-LLM-Code team and Ant Group.
