Bitcoin Reclaims $80K but Trading Volume Slumps 11% as Market Waits for FOMC

Stock News08:24

According to Woofun AI, the digital asset market is showing a divergence of rising prices alongside contracting liquidity under the dual macroeconomic pressure of the Federal Reserve's interest rate decision and the U.S. midterm elections.

Although Bitcoin (BTC) has regained its footing above the $80,000 mark, lifting major altcoins in tandem, overall market trading volume has fallen significantly, investor sentiment remains in "neutral" territory, and the market is waiting with extreme caution for key macroeconomic variables to play out.

In terms of market breadth and depth, CoinMarketCap data from the 27th shows that the total global digital asset market capitalization stands at $2.7 trillion, edging up 0.44% from the previous day; however, trading volume shrank sharply by 11.00% to $58.68 billion.

This price-volume divergence reveals hesitation within the market: Bitcoin's dominance stands at 60.0%, Ethereum (ETH) at 10.6%, and the Fear and Greed Index, which tracks investor sentiment, reads 45.

On specific asset performance, BTC rose 1.10% to $80,648.68; ETH gained 1.38% to $2,343.40; BNB climbed 0.77% to $747.58; XRP advanced 2.25% to $1.32; SOL rose 0.80% to $101.07; TRX edged up just 0.09% to $0.3301, trading steadily.

Notably, some altcoins showed relative strength, with ZEC leading the entire market with a 6.10% gain to $1,297.03; HYPE rose 4.12% to $81.20; DOGE and XMR gained 1.42% and 1.41% respectively.

Despite standout performances from individual coins, overall upward momentum remains limited. CoinMarketCap's altcoin seasonality index reads 57, and the CMC20 index, which tracks 20 major digital assets, rose 0.93% to 163.48 points, indicating a lack of broad bullish consensus in the market.

Woofun AI's compiled data shows that derivatives market behavior further confirms this wait-and-see sentiment. The most critical variable currently is the Federal Reserve's interest rate decision scheduled for the 28th, compounded by the U.S. midterm elections on November 3 and earnings releases from multiple tech companies, raising caution toward risk assets.

BTC touched near $87,000 during intraday trading but fell back to around $79,600 under selling pressure before rebounding again. Derivatives open interest grew 8.27% to $347.19 billion, showing investors are still adding positions; however, 24-hour trading volume dropped 20.27% to $597.25 billion, indicating a clear contraction in actual trading activity.

Utkarsh Ahuja, founder and managing partner of Munpusht Capital, analyzed that inflation, overvalued tech stocks and tightening financial conditions are suppressing investment willingness, and investment behavior will remain cautious until the market has a clearer read on corporate earnings and financial conditions. He emphasized the need to closely monitor spot ETF fund flows, leverage ratios and market liquidity going forward.

The key dividing line for short-term movement is the $81,000 resistance level. Market analyst Mikael van de Poppe stated on X that if BTC can break above $81,000, it could set a new high; if it fails to break through, it may drop to around $78,500 before quickly rebounding. He noted that given BTC's recovery from a low of $58,000, the current adjustment is normal and may actually present an opportunity for long-term investors.

Ted Pillows, reviewing historical data, pointed out that during a previous Federal Reserve rate decision, BTC rose 16% within a week after hitting a low on the day of the decision. With Federal Reserve policy signals dominating short-term volatility, whether BTC can effectively break above $81,000 will directly determine the market's next direction.
