Enhanced Flexibility in Job Selection and Increased Income Opportunities: Meizhou's Gig Market Expands Employment Prospects Through Multi-Dimensional Efforts

Deep News15:21

In Meizhou, an increasing number of workers are achieving flexible employment through the city's continuously improving public employment service system. This progress is largely attributed to the sustained efforts of the Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau. Since last year, leveraging 14 online and offline gig markets, the city has actively promoted service decentralization, innovative models, and skill enhancement through training. These initiatives aim to address the challenges faced by flexible workers in finding jobs and the urgent hiring needs of employers, thereby providing thoughtful and dedicated services to the public and vigorously advancing high-quality flexible employment.

Service Decentralization: Bridging Gaps Online to Reduce Commute In addition to utilizing online mini-programs, several gig markets in the city have adopted methods such as "live-streamed job recruitment" to establish a precise and efficient "online bridge" for matching individuals with job opportunities. This allows gig workers to search for and select positions from the comfort of their homes. The flexible job positions offered through these online and offline platforms—such as promotional roles in supermarkets, restaurant support, domestic services, cleaning and security, and manual processing—meet the needs of local urban and rural workers for nearby employment and flexible job choices. Most of these gig jobs offer hourly or daily wages, with compensation exceeding the local minimum wage standard, and skilled gig workers can earn substantial incomes.

Gig markets serve as a crucial link between job seekers and employers. "During the Spring Festival period, the Meijiang District Gig Market accurately matched over 200 workers for multiple service outlets in commercial areas such as Wanda, Tianhong, and Keduhui, effectively alleviating seasonal and temporary labor shortages for employers," said a staff member from the Meijiang District Gig Market. They have assigned service specialists to visit 1,336 factories, hotels, restaurants, and street shops within the Meijiang area to collect hiring needs. These specialists rigorously review enterprises and positions, establish a ledger of corporate hiring demands, and dynamically update job vacancies in real time, laying a solid data foundation for targeted job referrals.

Not only in Meijiang District, but employment service stations and gig markets across the city are also continuously optimizing service measures and enhancing service efficiency. Service specialists collect corporate hiring needs through multiple channels and strictly review enterprises and positions. Online and offline service zones are set up simultaneously for job and recruitment registration, policy consultation, and labor rights protection, ensuring precise connections between job seekers and employers. Follow-up visits are also conducted to accurately match job seekers' employment preferences with corporate hiring gaps, providing warm employment services for both supply and demand sides. Statistics show that employment service stations and gig markets across the city publish over 1,000 job postings monthly, organize more than 30 employment service activities, and serve over 4,000 individuals, effectively improving people's livelihoods through high-quality employment services.

Training Empowerment: Confidence in Employment and Income Growth To address the common pain points of gig workers, such as "lack of skills for employment and no clear path to increased income," the city relies on employment service stations and gig markets to offer free skill training courses that are practical, low-threshold, and easy to master, tailored to demand. This empowers job seekers with greater confidence in increasing their income. In addition to skill training, employment service stations and gig markets across the city also invite career counselors regularly to provide services such as career aptitude assessments, customized career planning, resume writing guidance, and interview skills training. These efforts comprehensively help job seekers address employment shortcomings and enhance their competitiveness.

"We always prioritize market demand, closely aligning training content and career guidance with corporate hiring gaps and public learning interests. By building an integrated service chain of 'skill training—job referral—stable employment,' we ensure that acquired skills seamlessly match job requirements, enabling job seekers to apply what they learn and achieve career success," said a relevant official from the Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau. In response to existing challenges such as structural labor shortages and insufficient standardization in the collection of scattered hiring information, the bureau plans to further improve online and offline services, expand the collection of gig information, strengthen simple skill training, and continuously standardize employment practices, striving to build a warm bridge connecting job seekers with employers.
