On the evening of October 17, the official "Douyin Blackboard" account posted a statement saying that recently, a purported JD procurement and sales employee named "Zuo Qi" fabricated facts and attacked Douyin e-commerce, and that Douyin has filed a lawsuit which the court has formally accepted.
Douyin said it noticed that JD's "Zuo Qi" subsequently spread rumors again on WeChat Moments, and that it has completed legal evidence preservation. Whether JD's "Zuo Qi" is an individual or some kind of "agent," that person should be held responsible for their words and actions, and Douyin will file an additional lawsuit in accordance with the law. The following is an explanation of the relevant circumstances regarding the newly released rumors.
1. The Article Referenced by JD's "Zuo Qi" in WeChat Moments Was a Report by an Authoritative Media Outlet Based on the Incident
JD's "Zuo Qi" mentioned in WeChat Moments that there was "only one report," which was an original report by a certain authoritative media outlet. The facts involved in the report were as follows: during the "618" major promotion period, Beijing Qingbei Daoyuan Information Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Qingbei Daoyuan") published a "Statement on the Situation Regarding Consumers Reporting That They Could Not Purchase Products at Qingbei Daoyuan's JD Official Flagship Store" on its official WeChat public account. It said that during the 2026 "618" major promotion period, other e-commerce platforms issued universal consumer coupons to all consumers, and consumers could use those coupons to purchase Qingbei Daoyuan products and enjoy corresponding discounts. However, JD Mall used this as a reason to require Qingbei Daoyuan to refuse consumers' use of coupons on other platforms, or to reduce all products on JD Mall to the post-coupon prices of other platforms, thereby achieving the so-called "lowest price across the entire internet." Because the merchant did not comply with the relevant requirements, it was restricted from search and purchase on JD.
After the statement was published, it attracted attention from multiple media outlets, and it was reported on the official websites of several media organizations as well as on multiple content platforms including Baidu and Weibo. Media reports cited legal professionals as saying that JD's relevant conduct was suspected of violating the "Internet Platform Price Behavior Rules" and the "E-Commerce Law."
2. The Claim of Being "Artificially Pushed onto the Trending List" Is a Rumor
This time, JD's "Zuo Qi" again posted a screenshot of a new article and added a comment saying that the article had only 1,000 reads and no comments, and had been artificially pushed onto the trending list. After verification, we confirmed that this statement, like other statements previously posted by that person, is a rumor. In fact, the trending entry mentioned by Zuo Qi appeared on the Toutiao trending list at 20:13 on May 28, 2026. At the time it entered the list, multiple media outlets had already reported and discussed the topic, and it was not just this one piece of news. The pinned news under the relevant topic was published by an authoritative media outlet. When it formally entered the list, the actual number of comments under the article exceeded 100, so the claim of "no comments" is fabrication. Indicators such as the open rate and interaction volume of the relevant news were consistent with the characteristics of high-quality content, and it entered the list naturally.
3. Relevant Reports About JD Have Entered the Trending List Multiple Times, and the Data Can Be Verified
Since 2026, the Toutiao platform's lists have cited authoritative media reports multiple times to publish information related to JD.com (NASDAQ: JD), including "JD's 150,000 full-time riders will escort the college entrance examination," "JD 618 starts at 8 p.m. tonight," and "JD provides employment opportunities for a 39-year-old mother." The platform's trending lists citing authoritative media's objective reports on companies is the normal operation of the platform's content mechanism, rather than "artificial manipulation" targeting a specific company or a specific topic. The relevant topic mentioned by JD's "Zuo Qi," in addition to appearing on the Toutiao trending list, also spread on other platforms. In fact, trending topics on various platforms and their specific times of entry are continuously monitored by multiple third-party platforms and can be verified through external channels.
JD's "Zuo Qi" has repeatedly fabricated facts and spread rumors through WeChat Moments and other channels, seriously damaging our commercial reputation and disrupting normal market order and the online environment. Regarding the latest rumor content posted, we have completed legal evidence preservation and will file an additional lawsuit in accordance with the law. In response to the acts of manufacturing and spreading rumors by JD's "Zuo Qi," we will resolutely defend our rights to the end.
