China Shenhua May 2026 Operations: Coal Sales Surge 11.7% While Production Slips; Power Generation Up 5%

China Shenhua Energy Company Limited released its major operational data for May 2026, incorporating newly consolidated assets from its April acquisition of China Energy Investment Corporation Limited’s related businesses. All prior-year figures have been restated for comparability.

Coal • Commercial coal production fell 4.10% year on year to 41.70 million tonnes, but sales expanded 11.70% to 50.50 million tonnes, driven by higher volumes of purchased coal against a low prior-year base. • Cumulative January–May coal production reached 207.20 million tonnes, down 4.00%, while sales rose 3.30% to 249.70 million tonnes.

Transportation • Turnover on self-owned railways increased 4.90% to 27.80 billion tonne-kilometres in May and 7.10% to 134.80 billion tonne-kilometres year-to-date (YTD). • Huanghua Port handled 19.30 million tonnes in May (-1.00% YoY) but 93.10 million tonnes YTD (+5.60%). • Tianjin Coal Dock volume grew 7.90% to 4.10 million tonnes in May and 9.70% YTD to 19.20 million tonnes. • Shipping volume slipped 2.10% to 23.60 million tonnes, and shipment turnover declined 3.80% to 22.60 billion tonne-nautical miles; both metrics still posted YTD gains of 3.40% and 3.60%, respectively.

Power • Gross power generation rose 5.00% to 20.86 billion kWh in May; cumulative output was 114.08 billion kWh, up 8.40%. • Dispatched power output reached 19.48 billion kWh (+4.60%), bringing the YTD figure to 107.04 billion kWh, an 8.30% increase.

Coal Chemicals • Polyethylene sales dropped 12.90% to 75.30 thousand tonnes in May and edged down 0.90% YTD to 408.60 thousand tonnes, reflecting production plans and market conditions. • Polypropylene sales climbed 7.70% to 96.60 thousand tonnes in May and were broadly stable YTD at 478.00 thousand tonnes (+0.42%).

Management highlighted that monthly operational data can fluctuate due to weather, maintenance, seasonal factors, and safety inspections, and may differ from figures in periodic reports.
