Special Report: The 2026 Sustainable Global Leaders Summit & the Second Green Industry and Sustainable Consumption Expo. On October 21, a financial frontline report stated that the 2026 Sustainable Global Leaders Summit was held from October 20 to 22 at the Huangpu Expo Park in Shanghai.
Alexander Döll, Chief Executive Officer of the Global Methanol Industry Association, participated in the "Energy and Power Sub-Forum · Sustainable Value Creation" sub-forum and took part in a themed dialogue.
Alexander Döll stated that the Global Methanol Industry Association was renamed the Global Methanol Alliance in September, because the energy transition can no longer afford to sit idle and wait — action must be taken. Without action, success is impossible, so an alliance must be built to work together and get things done.
He emphasized that the energy transition is a global opportunity and a global contest, and the best approach is to identify where the largest energy-consuming countries or the largest polluting countries are located and work together.
Alexander Döll pointed out that the energy transition is not an easy task but a long-term commitment. He introduced that he has the support of 80 member organizations behind him, including European commissioners and U.S. senators, with Geely and Honeywell both being members.
He noted that methanol applications are not limited to the maritime sector; attention is also being paid to applications in land-based chemicals and the aviation sector. Methanol is found in electronic products and cosmetics as well. Currently, 300 renewable energy and low-carbon projects are being tracked across the globe, with 55 under construction, while the others are still awaiting final decisions.
