Keurig Dr Pepper and Nestlé USA have announced the renewal and expansion of their strategic partnership, continuing their responsibility for the production and distribution of Starbucks-branded K-Cup coffee pods in the U.S. and Canadian markets. The new agreement builds upon the initial partnership established in 2020 and introduces new initiatives aimed at expanding the distribution and innovation of Starbucks products within the Keurig brewing system.

Under the agreement, Keurig will continue to utilize its single-serve coffee platform to manufacture Starbucks K-Cup pods, while Nestlé, leveraging the global consumer goods rights for Starbucks it acquired in 2018, will be responsible for bringing these products to market through retail channels. Starbucks will remain responsible for sourcing and roasting all coffee beans. The President of U.S. Coffee at Keurig Dr Pepper expressed anticipation for deepening the relationship with Nestlé to build on the long-standing collaboration with Starbucks. The President of Coffee & Beverages at Nestlé USA also noted that the Keurig system is a vital platform for its Starbucks at-home coffee portfolio.

Following the announcement, Keurig Dr Pepper's stock saw a slight increase in early trading on Tuesday, continuing its recent positive market performance. Last year, Keurig announced the acquisition of coffee peer JDE Peet's for $18 billion, further solidifying its position in the global coffee market. The renewal with Nestlé is viewed as a significant step for Keurig in optimizing its brand portfolio and channel strategy following a major acquisition. Analysts pointed out that K-Cup pods have a substantial user base in the U.S. and Canada, and the renewal ensures the continued presence of the important Starbucks brand within the system, which is crucial for Keurig in maintaining its market share. Specific financial terms and the duration of the new agreement were not disclosed.
