On May 19, Singapore Exchange (SGX) and Bank of China (BOC) signed a strategic cooperation memorandum to further deepen their long-term partnership.
This enhanced collaboration will leverage Singapore's role as a vital gateway connecting China, international investors, and global markets, supporting the growing commercial, trade, and investment opportunities between China and ASEAN. Both parties will further utilize their complementary resources to jointly build a two-way financial bridge linking China and ASEAN.
According to the memorandum, cooperation will be deepened in the following key areas:
Supporting Bank of China and Its Clients in Accessing International Capital and ASEAN Opportunities Utilizing SGX's international multi-asset platform, equity market, and ASEAN network, Bank of China and its clients will gain more convenient access through Singapore to international investors, the Singapore capital market, cross-border financing channels, and regional growth opportunities.
This cooperation will support Chinese enterprises with international development needs in pursuing primary or secondary listings on SGX, including companies from the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges. Through the Singapore capital market, Chinese enterprises will be able to connect with international capital, expand financing channels, and receive support for further entry into ASEAN markets.
Simultaneously, both parties will further deepen channels for Chinese investors to participate in Singapore-listed stocks. Through its securities arm, BOC International Securities, Bank of China can increase its involvement in the Singapore capital market ecosystem. Participation from Chinese capital will also help enhance the liquidity of the Singapore capital market, improve price discovery, and boost market vitality.
Advancing RMB Internationalization and Expanding Offshore RMB Business via Singapore SGX's RMB derivatives platform and international market connectivity will continue to support Bank of China and its clients in expanding offshore RMB business and serving cross-border commercial and investment flows within ASEAN.
Assisting Bank of China and Its Clients in Accessing Commodity and Derivatives Solutions SGX's commodity and derivatives platform will provide Bank of China and its clients with a broader range of commodity-related products and risk management tools, supporting their commercial, trade, and investment activities within ASEAN.
The connectivity between Chinese and ASEAN capital markets relies on close partnerships and trusted market infrastructure. We are pleased to further deepen our long-term cooperation with Bank of China through this group-level strategic partnership. Both parties will jointly strengthen financial connections between China and ASEAN, support Chinese investors in more conveniently participating in the Singapore capital market, and help enterprises and investors seize regional growth opportunities.
Moving forward, SGX and Bank of China will continue to deepen their collaboration. By leveraging their complementary strengths in market platforms, global networks, client resources, and financial services, they will support enterprises and investors in accessing international capital and ASEAN opportunities through Singapore, promoting Sino-Singapore financial cooperation to a higher level.
