Hebei Launches 2026 World Food Day and National Food Security Awareness Week Activities

Promoting grain conservation and loss reduction, advancing nutritious and healthy consumption.

On the morning of October 14, the main venue event for Hebei Province's 2026 World Food Day and National Food Security Awareness Week was held in Zhangjiakou City.

October 16 marks the 46th World Food Day, and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has designated this year's global theme as "Innovate Now, Secure Food for the Future."

The week in which it falls is National Food Security Awareness Week, and this year's theme is "Implement the Whole Grain Action Plan, Promote Grain Saving, Loss Reduction, and Nutritional Health."

The event was jointly organized by the Provincial Grain and Strategic Reserves Bureau, the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the Provincial Department of Education, the Provincial Government Offices Administration, the Communist Youth League Provincial Committee, and the Provincial Women's Federation.

It aims to closely integrate with the province's actual conditions, target high-quality food security assurance and improvement of the nutritional health status of all residents, be guided by the demand for big food, big nutrition, and big health, deeply implement the national Whole Grain Action Plan, develop the whole grain industry according to local conditions, promote grain conservation and loss reduction, advance residents' nutritious and healthy consumption, and safeguard national food security at a higher level and higher standard.

At the event site, 14 grain and whole grain enterprises from across the province exhibited in a concentrated manner, bringing products such as grain noodles, low-GI (glycemic index) multigrain noodles, whole grain steamed buns, and whole grain rice, showcasing Hebei Province's new achievements in specialty grain and oil processing, nutritional staple food development, moderate processing, and grain saving and loss reduction.

In 2025, the province's grain sown area reached 96.915 million mu, with a total output of 78.40 billion jin and a yield of 404.5 kilograms per mu. The total grain output has remained stable above 70 billion jin for 13 consecutive years and exceeded 74 billion jin for 10 consecutive years, providing a solid raw material guarantee for the development of the whole grain industry.

While ensuring stable grain supply, Hebei Province has persisted in making efforts on both the increase-production and loss-reduction ends, using guiding farmers in scientific grain storage and guiding enterprises in moderate processing as entry points to continuously advance grain conservation and loss reduction.

In 2025, the processing loss rates for wheat, corn, and rice across the province all decreased year-on-year, storage losses of local reserve grain were kept within a reasonable range, green grain storage technology achieved full coverage, and the scale of high-quality whole grain food processing enterprises in the province continued to grow, with influence steadily increasing.

During the awareness week, Hebei Province will focus on the entire grain production chain, centering on each link of "production, purchase, storage, processing, and sales," publicize and promote typical cases from field to granary and from workshop to dining table, strengthen whole grain science popularization, amplify demonstration effects, guide the whole society to establish the concepts of scientific diet, civilized dining, and cherishing food, and jointly consolidate the foundation of food security.
