Two government departments have issued a notification regarding the release of the "15th Five-Year Plan" for the construction of a new energy system.

The plan outlines a focus on integrated hydro-solar-wind development to advance hydropower construction. It calls for the high-quality development of the lower Yarlung Zangbo River hydropower project, the orderly progression of major projects such as Cihaxia, Longpan, and Gangtuo, and the research and assessment of the Nu River basin hydropower plan.

Accelerating the planning and construction of integrated hydro-solar-wind bases in major river basins is a key priority. The plan also involves coordinating adjustments to hydropower plans across primary river basins and promoting the expansion of existing hydropower plants along with capacity upgrades for generating units.

Furthermore, the plan includes the implementation of a high-quality development program for hydropower in the Yangtze River basin and the execution of green retrofitting and enhancement initiatives for small hydropower stations.

The target is for conventional hydropower installed capacity to reach approximately 410 million kilowatts (or 410 gigawatts) by the year 2030.
