Hong Kong Market Midday Update: Hang Seng Index Down 0.83%, Gold Sector Rises Across the Board

At the midday break, the Hong Kong market's Hang Seng Index declined by 0.83%, dropping 208 points to 24,923. The Hang Seng Tech Index fell by 2.11%. Turnover for the morning session reached HK$169.3 billion.

Precious Metals Sector in Focus

Gold stocks were a notable bright spot, trading higher across the board. The rally was supported by spot gold prices breaking above $4,100 per ounce, with anticipated central bank buying seen as providing a solid floor for the metal. Chifeng Gold Co., Ltd. (HKG: 06693) surged 14%, while Lingbao Gold Co., Ltd. (HKG: 03330) jumped 16%. Wanguo International Mining Group Co., Ltd. (HKG: 03939) rose over 10%, bringing its cumulative gain for the month to more than 40%.

Copper Producers Extend Gains

Copper-related shares continued their recent upward trajectory. The move was attributed to supply constraints from storm-related disruptions at some mines in Chile and reports that domestic social inventories of electrolytic copper in China have hit a yearly low. MMG Limited (HKG: 01208) advanced 10%, China Nonferrous Mining Corporation Limited (HKG: 01258) gained 8%, and Zijin Mining Group Co., Ltd. (HKG: 02899) increased 7%.

Other Notable Movers

JiaXin International Resources Co., Ltd. (HKG: 03858) climbed over 12% following its report of a substantial HK$1.5 billion profit for the first half of the year and a plan to repurchase up to HK$200 million worth of shares in the second half.

ZTE Corporation (HKG: 00763) rose more than 10% after its Nubia NaviX Ultra smartphone, featuring the Doubao AI assistant, was unveiled at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference.

Liontrust Holdings Limited (HKG: 02562) soared over 19% on news of the launch of its upgraded intelligent ecosystem, Geene 2.0, which extends its technology strategy into areas including enterprise AI.

China COSCO Shipping Energy Transportation Co., Ltd. (HKG: 01138) gained over 5% as analysts suggested renewed US-Iran tensions are unlikely to derail the positive trend in oil shipping rates.

Lee & Man Paper Manufacturing Ltd. (HKG: 02314) added over 7% after forecasting an up to 71% rise in interim profit, prompting Citigroup to raise its earnings estimates and target price for the company.

Montage Technology Co., Ltd. (HKG: 06809) advanced more than 12% on a significant increase in shipments of its DDR5 RCD chips, with Citigroup noting the company's underlying business fundamentals remain strong.

Insilico Medicine Hong Kong Limited (HKG: 03696) increased over 5% following its report of strong revenue growth and a return to profitability in the first half, alongside several strategic partnerships secured this month.

Huaqin Technology Co., Ltd. (HKG: 03296) surged over 14% after projecting that its revenue from a single product line would exceed RMB 10 billion for the full year.

On the downside, Kingboard Laminates Holdings Ltd. (HKG: 01888) fell more than 5% amid news of share sales by major shareholders and company executives.
