On January 19th, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) released a brief analysis of passenger vehicle production and sales for December 2025. According to the association's analysis, production rhythms on the supply side slowed in December, leading to slight month-on-month and year-on-year declines in passenger vehicle sales. In December 2025, passenger vehicle production and sales reached 2.879 million and 2.847 million units, respectively, declining by 8.4% and 6.3% compared to the previous month, and falling by 4.2% and 8.7% compared to the same period last year.
For the full year of 2025, passenger vehicle production and sales totaled 30.27 million and 30.103 million units, representing year-on-year growth of 10.2% and 9.2%, respectively.
In December 2025, among the main types of passenger vehicles, production of Multi-Purpose Vehicles (MPVs) saw a double-digit decline compared to the previous month, while sales experienced slight growth; the production and sales of the other three major passenger vehicle categories all declined to varying degrees. Compared to December 2024, the production and sales of all four major passenger vehicle categories showed declines, with the drop in crossover passenger vehicles being more pronounced.
For the full year 2025, compared to 2024, the production and sales of all four major passenger vehicle categories registered growth to varying degrees, with crossover passenger vehicles showing the most significant growth rates.
Domestic sales of passenger vehicles in December 2025 were 2.206 million units, down 8.6% month-on-month and 18.1% year-on-year.
For the full year 2025, domestic passenger vehicle sales reached 24.065 million units, an increase of 6.4% compared to the previous year.
Passenger vehicle exports in December 2025 amounted to 641,000 units, rising by 2.8% from the previous month and surging 50.5% year-on-year.
For the full year 2025, passenger vehicle exports totaled 6.038 million units, growing by 21.9% compared to 2024.
