Shenzhen Futian District Unveils Urban Identity System

Deep News2025-12-28

On the evening of December 26, the urban identity system of Futian District in Shenzhen was officially launched, coinciding with the simultaneous inauguration of the district's large-scale comprehensive cultural landmark, the Antuoshan Public Culture Center. The event marked a significant milestone for the district's 35th anniversary.

As a key activity for the 35th anniversary of Futian District, the campaign to solicit designs for the district's image identity was launched in May 2025 under the theme "Futian in Heart, Your Creativity." The initiative garnered over 2,700 submissions from around the globe, attracting participation from domestic professional teams, local citizens, primary and secondary school students, as well as overseas designers from 22 countries including Italy, Spain, and France, achieving a remarkable fusion of cross-regional and cross-cultural creativity. The selection process underwent preliminary evaluation by an expert panel, a public popularity vote, and a re-evaluation by experts. In the final judging stage, a committee of seven experts from design and cultural fields conducted multiple rounds of closed-door discussions and cross-verification, ultimately selecting the work "福启善城•光耀福田" (Fortune Awakens the Virtuous City, Light Illuminates Futian) by Shiyu & Shiyu Brand Design Co., Ltd. as the official image identity of Futian District.

"The Futian District urban identity uses the Chinese character '福' (fortune) as its visual core, outlining the district's characteristics with a four-color gradient," said Huang Wei, Vice Chairman of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Party Leadership Group Member, and Secretary of the Futian District Committee. He explained that the red gradient, transitioning from the purple of Shenzhen's city flower, the bougainvillea, to the red of the national flag, symbolizes Futian's role as the central urban area and the "cover page" of Shenzhen. Gold, representing the financial and headquarters hub, transitions from reddish-gold to yellow, highlighting Futian's functional status as Shenzhen's CBD and its unique charm. Blue signifies Futian's position as an emerging sci-tech innovation zone jointly developed by the high-tech city of Shenzhen and Hong Kong, moving towards becoming a "Central Innovation District" for the future. Green symbolizes Shenzhen's high-quality ecology and its leadership in fashionable green production methods, lifestyles, and development models.

Furthermore, the English slogan "futian•fortune•future" was refined and integrated from the design concepts of multiple teams. It not only echoes the auspicious meaning of the Chinese name "Futian" but also conveys the core characteristics of a "land of fortune and city of the future" in a cross-cultural context, serving as a cultural bridge connecting China and the world.

It is worth noting that the other four design proposals that reached the final judging stage were respectively adopted by the Futian District Foreign Affairs Office, the Futian District Women's Federation, the Futian District Civil Affairs Bureau, and the Futian District Bureau of Science, Technology, and Industry Informatization. These designs will continue to provide creative value in future government communications and public services.

On the evening of December 26, the Antuoshan Public Culture Center was officially opened. Conceptualized as a "vertical cultural gathering," the center vertically stacks a grand theater, a concert hall, and multiple public spaces through a large-span system, integrating art, nature, and urban life to redefine the boundless possibilities of modern cultural spaces. Fang Donglin, Director of the Venue Operations Department at the Shenzhen Futian District Public Culture and Sports Center, introduced that the Antuoshan Public Culture Center is the first large-scale comprehensive cultural landmark funded and constructed at the district level since Futian's establishment. Centered around three major performing arts spaces, it aims to shape an internationally influential public cultural innovation hub for the Greater Bay Area, dedicated to incubating and creating musicals, nurturing talent, and building a full-chain platform for artistic creation, performance, and exchange, providing the public with high-quality, diverse, and open cultural and artistic experiences. In the future, the center will connect with the planned Antuoshan Art Community and Natural Art Park to jointly shape a unique public cultural and art corridor, establishing "Antuoshan" as a new cultural and artistic IP for Futian.

Hu Liangzi, Rotating CEO of Julive Group, the theater management and operations partner for the Antuoshan Public Culture Center, stated that the podium of the center will be wholly operated by the Julive Theater Chain. It features one 1,000-seat international standard grand theater, one 500-seat professional acoustical concert hall, four 120-seat black box theaters, and an art exhibition hall, capable of hosting performances ranging from musicals and dance dramas to plays, concerts, and cross-disciplinary arts. Additionally, it is equipped with professional facilities such as rehearsal studios and piano rooms, and includes public spaces like a rooftop garden and a sunken plaza. Adhering to the philosophy of "open sharing and vibrant symbiosis," the center will host regular activities including public welfare performances, thematic exhibitions, art education programs, sports and leisure events, and creative markets. The center will not only cater to diverse performance needs from classical to cutting-edge and from large-scale to intimate but also build an integrated cultural ecosystem of "creation-performance-exhibition," shaping an internationally influential public cultural innovation hub for the Greater Bay Area.
