Oil prices fell in early Asian trading as optimism grows that the United States and Iran may reach an agreement to ease supply disruptions. US President Donald Trump told reporters on Sunday that the US will begin negotiations with Iran from Monday afternoon. Trump stated that he was prepared to launch the largest military attack since World War II but was dissuaded by US allies.
Oil prices were also likely weighed down by OPEC+’s decision to increase crude output by approximately 188,000 barrels per day in September. Front-month West Texas Intermediate crude futures dropped 4.6% to $80.77 per barrel, while front-month Brent crude futures fell 4.5% to $83.98 per barrel.
