China Merchants Bank's Industrial Metals ETF Link Fund Extends Subscription Window by One Month, Pushing Final Date to Mid-October

Deep News09-18

The number of newly launched funds in 2026 has reached 1,416, just 89 short of matching the full-year total for 2025. Looking at monthly figures, 181 funds were launched in August, while 152 have been launched so far in September, with an average issuance size of 488 million units per fund. However, despite these impressive issuance numbers, the fundraising landscape reveals a clear divergence between strong performers and those struggling to attract capital.

According to Wind data, 31 funds adjusted their subscription periods over the past week (September 11 to September 18). Among them, only 5 concluded fundraising ahead of schedule, while the rest extended their subscription deadlines. Notably, 5 funds pushed their final subscription dates directly into October.

The adjustments span multiple fund categories, including passive index funds, hybrid FOFs, partial equity hybrid funds, and enhanced index funds. Passive index funds have been hit hardest by extensions, with 17 products announcing delays, including Huatai-PineBridge ChiNext Financial Technology ETF, Yongying Guozheng Grain Industry ETF, and Industrial Securities SSE STAR Market AI ETF. Despite rapid rotation in market hotspots, investor appetite for specific themes remains weak, with significant divergence in investor recognition across niche tracks. Some popular themes, while drawing attention, still require longer fundraising periods, while traditional cyclical themes like agriculture and non-ferrous metals face even greater fundraising pressure.

Among the notable cases, Bank of China Fund Management's BOC CSI Industrial Non-Ferrous Metals Thematic ETF Link Fund A (028734.OF) issued an announcement on September 11 extending its subscription deadline to October 16, pushing back the original end date of September 15. The fund, managed by Li Nian and Zhao Jianzhong, began its subscription period on August 31. Notably, the product's final subscription date has been pushed directly to mid-October, potentially signaling the difficulty of raising capital for non-ferrous metals themed funds in the current market environment.

As a bank-affiliated fund company, Bank of China Fund Management holds a traditional edge in fixed-income products, yet still faces challenges in launching niche thematic ETFs. As of September 18, the company has issued 17 products this year, with total issuance reaching 6.7 billion yuan.
