National Energy Administration: EV Charging Infrastructure in China Reaches 24.42 Million Units by End of August, Up 39.6% Year-on-Year

On September 23, the National Energy Administration released the national electric vehicle (EV) charging facility data for August 2026, based on the monitoring platform of the national charging facility service. As of the end of August 2026, the total number of EV charging infrastructure units across China reached 24.42 million, marking a 39.6% increase compared to the same period last year.

Among the total, public charging facilities accounted for 5.16 million units, reflecting a 19.5% year-on-year growth. These public units have a combined rated power capacity of 262 million kilowatts, with an average power output of approximately 50.69 kilowatts per charging gun.

Meanwhile, private charging facilities totaled 19.06 million units, up 46.3% year-on-year. The reported electricity capacity for private charging installations has reached 163 million kilovolt-amperes, underscoring the rapidly expanding home-charging segment within the country’s EV ecosystem.
