Huawao Village in Niulanjiang Town: Small Chili Peppers Blaze a Trail to Prosperity

Deep News10-21

During the golden autumn season, Huawao Village in Niulanjiang Town is celebrating the harvest of its high-quality millet chili peppers, with specialty varieties such as colorful chili peppers and beauty peppers hitting the market in full force.

The contiguous chili fields display a striking mix of red and green, with branches heavy with fruit, as villagers seize the sunny weather to harvest. Offline purchasing is bustling and online orders keep pouring in, transforming a single millet chili pepper into a thriving "flaming industry" that drives villagers' income growth and paints a vivid picture of autumn harvest.

Huawao Village has nearly 946 acres of chili pepper cultivation, with an estimated total output of 1.89 million kilograms.

Walking into the chili pepper planting base in Huawao Village, the pepper plants are lush and vibrant. More than 260 villagers shuttle through the fields every day, skillfully picking, sorting, and bagging, with baskets of high-quality fresh peppers neatly stacked, brimming with the spirit of harvest.

Relying on the local superior soil, suitable climate, and meticulous field management, the millet chili peppers produced in Huawao Village are firm in texture and intensely fresh and spicy, earning strong market favor for their excellent quality. Villager Chen Wenying said: "Growing millet chili peppers brings good income. Every household in the village is planting them, and the village committee supports us and has helped us a great deal."

While ensuring chili pepper yield and quality, Huawao Village has expanded a sales system combining online and offline channels. Offline, eight out-of-town buyers have already set up purchasing stations in the village, conducting on-site grading, screening, weighing, and packaging, achieving "harvest-to-sale" directly, allowing farmers to convert pepper fruits into income without leaving the village and solving sales and transportation challenges. Online, a new path for e-commerce assistance to farmers has been opened, relying on the Shanye Hetian store on the Pinduoduo platform, adopting a sales model of fresh field picking and direct shipping from the production area, reducing unnecessary intermediate steps.

Huawao Village is also actively exploring new ways to increase income. Since the beginning of this year, the village has trial-planted 30 acres of colorful chili peppers, with a yield of about 2.5 tons per acre. After harvesting, they are packed and sold through e-commerce platforms, with each box containing 2.5 kilograms. After the colorful chili peppers hit the market, they received very good responses online. Currently, daily online orders exceed 2,000, with products shipped far beyond the province, and orders are quickly sorted, packed, and dispatched to maximize the preservation of their fresh and spicy flavor. Grower Wang Qiaoyu said: "Colorful chili peppers sell at a higher price than millet chili peppers, and now the market is good too. Next year, we all plan to plant more colorful chili peppers."

Bai Wei, Party Branch Secretary of Huawao Village, said: "Whether it's millet chili peppers or colorful chili peppers, villagers harvest locally and sell locally, fully safeguarding farmers' income. Next, Huawao Village will continue to improve its specialty agricultural product system, explore paths for university students to livestream and assist farmers, and drive stable income growth for villagers."

From small chili peppers to villager prosperity, Huawao Village takes specialty industries as its starting point, continuously broadening channels for increasing people's income, empowering rural revitalization through industrial revitalization, and making villagers' lives increasingly prosperous.
