Shenzhen Woman Finds 758.9g Gold Bar Worth 900,000 Yuan on Way to Pick Up Child, Returns It to Security, Reunited with Owner Within an Hour

Deep News09:10

On the afternoon of August 25, a textbook example of lost property recovery unfolded on Shenzhen's Shuibei Street: a solid gold bar weighing 758.9 grams and valued at approximately 900,000 yuan went from falling to the ground to being safely returned to its rightful owner in just over an hour. The person who found it was a local businesswoman rushing to pick up her child from school.

At around 4:16 PM that day, a young man riding a two-wheeled self-balancing scooter passed through the east passage of Shuibei Wanshan Mall. As he crossed a speed bump, the vehicle jolted, and the gold bar he was carrying slipped out of a damaged bag and fell to the ground. About a minute later, Ms. Cai, who was passing by on an electric scooter, spotted the gold bar. Having worked in the gold wholesale business in Shuibei for years, she immediately recognized its value by its weight. After a brief pause, she decisively handed the gold bar over to the security guard at Shuibei Wanshan Mall, left her contact number, and hurried off.

Security team leader Zhang Qiwei promptly filled out the necessary paperwork and reported the find to the company's finance department for safekeeping. Just over an hour later, the owner, accompanied by police officers, arrived at the mall. After verification, the gold bar was successfully returned to its owner. The entire chain, from the moment it fell, to being picked up, handed over, and finally returned, was flawlessly connected without a single gap.

When contacted later by reporters, Ms. Cai said, "I really think this is a trivial matter, just a simple act of kindness. Anyone would have picked it up and handed it to the police or security, right?" Zhang Qiwei told reporters that in his years working in security, he has handled or heard of nearly 20 cases of lost valuable gold and jewelry in Shuibei, and in the end, every single item was returned to its owner.
