On the morning of December 14, it was reported that the AI-powered Doubao Phone Assistant, developed by ByteDance in collaboration with ZTE, has drawn attention in the tech community with its engineering prototype, the Nubia M153. Some users reported restricted access when logging into certain social platforms.
In response to online rumors suggesting that "regulators summoned ByteDance over cybersecurity, data security, and competition concerns," an insider clarified to SINA Tech that the claims are false. On December 3, 5, and 13, Doubao Phone Assistant issued multiple statements emphasizing that it does not authorize actions on behalf of users or capture protected content, while advocating for clearer industry rules. The new device’s key selling point is its cross-application voice control feature, enabling automated price comparisons and seamless order placement.
