White House National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett stated that former President Trump's opinions on interest rates are unrelated to the Justice Department's investigation into the Federal Reserve.

Hassett, who is seen as a leading candidate to succeed Jerome Powell as Fed Chair, made these remarks during an appearance on CNBC.

He expressed, "I respect the independence of the Fed, and I respect the independence of the Justice Department."

He further added that he has not been briefed on the Justice Department's plans regarding this matter.
